A Chinese retrospective chart review of 5 patients (aged 9-15 years at referral) with atopic dermatitis (AD) complicated by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was published. The review period was 2004-2007. A generalized erythema and fishy odor were often observed by parents and clinicians when MRSA was isolated during exacerbations. The condition was refractory to combinations of topical and systemic steroids, immunomodulators, traditional Chinese medicine and antibiotics. All the MRSA cultures in these patients did respond to vancomycin however (Hon, K-L, E. et al. J Nat Med Assoc 2008, 100[7]: 797-800).
