The efficacy of a liquid soap containing 12% ammonium lactate and 20% urea (Axera™) was evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 36 patients (aged 3-40 years) with mild-moderate atopic dermatitis (AD). After 3 weeks of using the soap or vehicle once daily in the shower, efficacy was assessed by clinicians and patients. The soap was statistically significantly better than the vehicle on scaling, dryness, redness and patients' subjective assessment of pruritus (Amichai, B. and Grunwold, M.H. 17th Congr Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol (EADV) (Sept. 17-21, Paris) 2008, Abst.
