Serum prolactin in psoriasis and its possible association with disease activity

 
 

The correlation between serum prolactin and cutaneous disease activity was studied in 20 psoriasis patients aged 18-88 years. Twenty age- and gender-matched controls were also included. Disease activity was measured by the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI), before and after a 6-week treatment with once-daily tacalcitol ointment (4 ug/g). Serum prolactin was significantly increased in psoriasis patients versus controls (mean 21.4 ng/mL vs. 8.4 ng/mL; P < 0.001). Tacalcitol decreased the PASI from a mean of 10.7 at baseline to 3.8 after 6 weeks (P < 0.01).
