Summary
Like in other medical fields,
dermatology also strives to be less and less invasive, both in
therapy and in diagnosis. The visual background of skin diseases
has been the reason why exact imaging and consequent reproduction
are very important, for both clinical and forensic reasons. The
concept of being able to exactly image and map a certain skin
lesion has baffled scientists and artists for decades, if not
centuries, and the field has seen a steady progression to the
current state of noninvasive diagnostic methods. The author in this
review outlines the most efficient methods, describes their
principle and mentions possible uses in clinical practice.
